Joburg Water has warned residents that due to a power failure at Rand Water’s Vereeniging purification plant, water supply to the Eikenhof pump station and the reservoir has been affected.
This has left suburbs such as Hursthill, Brixton and Crosby affected as they are fed from the Eikenhof system.
However, Joburg Water says recovery will take place during the night when demand for water is low and they expect full restoration within 72 hours.
They say they are monitoring water supply to critical customers such as hospitals in the affected areas and their technical team is ready to assist should a need arise.
Joburg Water added that there has been a slight improvement, however, customers in higher-lying areas will continue to be affected during the period while the system is being restored.
