The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe together with the Health MEC in Limpopo Phophi Ramathuba will on Tuesday start with the vaccination of mine workers. The vaccination of mineworkers programme will be launched at Exarro Mine in Lephalale. Ramathuba says they are concerned about an upsurge of cluster cases affecting the mining industry.
“In Lephalale, that is where we are having a problem cluster outbreaks that we have seen in our mining areas,” says Ramathuba.
Ramathuba says the growing number of COVID-19 infections requires urgent attention.
“So we have been working together with the mineral council together with the ministry also economic development in the province and most importantly with the mine bosses themselves so that we can fast track the issue of vaccinating mine workers so it will be a hybrid model that we will be using in the province, there are certain mines that have indicated that they are ready,” says Ramathuba.
