Emergency teams are at the scene of a fatal bus crash on the N3 near Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal. It is believed that a bus veered off the road and crashed into a bush near the Bergville off-ramp, rolling several times, ejecting some occupants in the process.
The bus then came to rest on its side in the veld next to the N3.
Emergency Medical Services Spokesperson Robert McKenzie says there are reports of multiple fatalities and injuries.
On arrival of emergency services, at least 50 people were found to have sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious.
It is believed that 10 people have died.
McKenzie says all emergency services are on scene.
“Paramedics are treating multiple patients at the scene and there are reports of multiple fatalities as well. However, reports as to how many people have sustained fatal injuries and how many are being treated by paramedics have not filtered through as yet. All the required emergency services are on the scene coordinating rescue efforts.”
