One person has allegedly been shot dead by police after two trucks and a bakkie were earlier torched during protests on the R503 at Blydeville outside Lichtenburg in the North West.
This was after angry residents of Blydeville embarked on a violent protest over the ANC’s candidate lists ahead of the November local government elections.
Several shops have been closed in the area.
“We are aware of the reports that a person was allegedly shot by police and later died in hospital. This particular matter is under investigation and the Independent Police Investigations Directorate (IPID) have been informed accordingly so that they can also be involved in the investigations,” says police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone.
