NCOP members visit thriving farms that were part of land restitution in Limpopo

Workers sort avocados at a farm factory in Nelspruit in Mpumalanga province, about 51 miles (82 km) north of the Swaziland border, South Africa, June 14, 2018.

The Ravele Communal Property Association (CPA) outside Louis Trichardt in Limpopo has told visiting members of the National Council of Provinces that they are proud beneficiaries of the government’s land restitution programme.

The farms employ 167 permanent workers. They export avocadoes and macadamia to overseas markets such as Asia, Europe and the USA.

CPA chairperson Nelson Netshisaulu says they are still waiting for the government to hand over the outstanding farms. Netshisaulu however says their challenge is high electricity tariffs and theft.

“We are selling our products locally and even abroad, the challenges that we are facing, one amongst them is theft, another challenge is the unruly behaviour by some of our members. We keep on knocking at the government’s door to process the farms that have not as yet been given to us, ” Netshisaulu says.
