The 41 Southern African Development Community Summit kicks off in Malawi on Monday under the theme: Bolstering Productive Capacity in the Face of COVID-19.
The week-long meeting will explore the implementation of the SADC regional strategic development plan with a strong focus on industrialisation.

The Summit will also see Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera take over the SADC Chairpersonship from Mozambique.
With the focus being on the inclusive, sustainable economic and industrial transformation, the meeting of the finance ministers will kick start discussions and lay the groundwork for this year’s agenda.
The summit will take stock of progress made in promoting regional integration in line with the goal of creating an inclusive, competitive, middle-to high-income industrialised region by 2050.
The Heads of State will wrap up the summit on 16-17 August where the regional bloc will elect a new Executive Secretary.

The summit will be in a hybrid format with virtual and in-person attendants in Lilongwe.
