Traffic on the R102 at Tongaat north of KwaZulu-Natal is severely affected on Saturday morning after a motor vehicle struck eleven cyclists, killing one and leaving three others injured.
Paramedics say it’s alleged that the vehicle was overtaking several cars on a blind rise, resulting in the vehicle ramming into a group of cyclists, resulting in one of the cyclists being pinned under the car and dragged for several meters.
IPSS medical rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst says advanced life support worked to free the victim, who sustained multiple injuries and was declared dead on scene.
“A motor vehicle overtaking three vehicles have crashed into eleven cyclists, unfortunately one cyclist was stuck underneath the vehicle and was dragged for a considerable amount of time. One arrival by IPSS medical rescue the patient was struck underneath the vehicle our rescue technicians managed to lift the vehicle and free the victim from underneath the vehicle. Unfortunately he was declared deceased on the scene due to the severity of his injuries. Three other cyclist sustained minor injuries and is currently being treated by IPSS medical rescue on scene,” says Herbst.
