Three people have been killed and four others injured in a multiple-vehicle pile-up on the N2 between KwaDukuza and Zinkwazi on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.
A vehicle was allegedly trying to overtake multiple vehicles when it lost control and hit a truck, which in turn crashed into several vehicles. The truck which was transporting alcohol lost its load after which looters helped themselves to it.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst says the looters hampered paramedic’s efforts to treat the injured.
“On the N2 between Stanger and Zinkwazi were multiple vehicles have been involved in the collision including a beer truck. Seven people have been affected, three of which have lost their lives a further two patients are critical whilst two more are in a serious condition. IPSS medical rescue and advanced life support paramedics are working to manage the scene which is being hampered by looters who are ridding the truck of its cargo. It is alleged that a vehicle was overtaking multiple vehicles when it lost control and hit the truck which in turn struck several cars. Traffic on both lanes are being affected, north and south bound.”
Cyclist killed
Traffic on the R102 at Tongaat north of KwaZulu-Natal is severely affected on Saturday morning after a motor vehicle struck eleven cyclists, killing one and leaving three others injured.
Paramedics say it’s alleged that the vehicle was overtaking several cars on a blind rise, resulting in the vehicle ramming into a group of cyclists, resulting in one of the cyclists being pinned under the car and dragged for several meters.
Limpopo accident
The N1 near the Baobab Tollgate between Musina and Louis Trichardt in Limpopo has closed due to a collision between two heavy-duty trucks and a car. Motorists travelling between the two towns are being re-routed to roads in the Tshipise farming area.
The number of fatalities is yet to be confirmed. The cause of the collision is not yet clear.
