Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says assistant teachers will be reintroduced in some schools as primary school learners in the Free State are back in full capacity.
Motshekga visited some primary schools in Bloemfontein to assess teaching and learning and compliance with COVID-19 regulations.
The province says it’s 60 percent ready to welcome all learners. Motshekga says the foundation phase and Grade 7 curriculums will be prioritised.
“If we have to break them into smaller groups it means there is a need for more teachers, that’s why I have to quickly get Treasury to help with teacher assistants to make sure they can help them while they are social distancing. We are working on those measures,” says Motshekga.
