Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, will be visiting a number of schools in Gauteng to check on their readiness for the third term.
The department reiterated that it would continue to place the safety of all teaching and non-teaching staff and learners at the heart of all schooling plans.
On Sunday, President Cyril Ramaphosa moved the country to Alert Level 3 of the national lockdown following his meeting with the National Coronavirus Command Council, the Presidential Coordinating Committee and cabinet.
The department says thousands of COVID-19 screeners have been recruited to help with the management of the virus at schools, including taking temperatures, ensuring hands are regularly sanitized while masks are worn at all times.
