A woman has burnt to death after a fire broke out in her house in Hyde Park, in Mitchell’s Plain, on the Cape Flats on Saturday morning.

Cape Town Fire spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse says the cause of the blaze is unknown at this stage and the scene was handed over to the police.

“When firefighters arrived at the scene of the fire in Weltevreden Road, they found a double-storey house ablaze and were informed that there was a person inside. The body of the woman, aged 46, was found at 5:18 am. Crews managed to extinguish the blaze by 6.50 am. A building Inspector was requested to ascertain the structural integrity of the dwelling,” says Carelse.
