SA records more than 4 000 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has recorded 4 237 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 632 572.

The country has also recorded 53 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Saturday. This brings the total number of deaths to 55 772.

The cumulative recoveries now stand at 1 537 430 representing a recovery rate of 94,2%.

The number of tests conducted to date is 11 325 572. Of these 43 755 tests were conducted since the
last report.

Vaccine rollout 

The Department of Health says it currently preparing for the public dashboard to go live on Monday adding, ” The data verification processes are under way over the weekend. We have undertaken a decision to report data as at
23.59 of the previous day, as we do with the daily statistics currently reported in the Minister’s daily
report.”

The total number of people vaccinated under the Sisonke Programme now stands at 480 665.

“These vaccinations were with the one-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine and are therefore completed vaccinations,” says the Department

“The total vaccinated in Phase Two as of 18.30 today is 162 281. These vaccinations were with the first dose of Pfizer vaccine,” it adds.
