Mpumalanga police are investigating a case of murder after a 40-year-old prison warder allegedly shot his friend and then turned the gun on himself in Barberton.
It is alleged that the two men were sitting at a local tavern when the incident happened. Ralph Hlophe and Chris Mkhondo were certified dead at the scene. Provincial Police Spokesperson Donald Mdhluli says the motive for the shooting is still unknown.
“According to information, a group of people was at a certain tavern in Barberton including an official working for the Correctional Services who was with his friend. It is said that the official was in possession of his private firearm at the time he then allegedly shot his friend before turning the gun on himself. The police, as well as the paramedics, were notified about the incident upon arrival the two were certified death by the medical personnel at the scene.”
