The first 80 000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine have arrived at O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
The vaccines will be moved to a secure facility in Gauteng from where they will be distributed to vaccination centres in all provinces.
The single-dose vaccines will be used to vaccinate frontline healthcare workers in both the private and public sectors.

Meanwhile, the Health Department has recorded 1 210 new COVID-19 cases, taking the number of total infections to 1 494 119 in the last 24 hours.
There have been a further 219 COVID-19 related deaths in the country, bringing the national death toll to 48 313.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in Gauteng.
“Regrettably, we report 219 more COVID-19 related deaths: 20 from Eastern Cape, 9 from the Free State, 56 from Gauteng, 43 from KwaZulu-Natal, 29 from Limpopo, 10 from Mpumalanga, 14 from Northern Cape and 38 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
The cumulative total number of tests conducted to date is 8 737 330.
The total number of recoveries stands at 1 396 951.
