The Health Department has recorded 3 159 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the number of total infections to 1 482 412.
There have been a further 276 COVID-19 related deaths in the country, bringing the national death toll to 47 145.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in Gauteng.
“Regrettably, we report 276 more COVID-19 related deaths: 33 from Eastern Cape, 20 from the Free State, 126 from Gauteng, 34 from KwaZulu-Natal, 3 from Limpopo, 21 from Mpumalanga, 8 from Northern Cape and 31 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
The total number of recoveries stands at 1 367 247.
The cumulative total number of tests conducted to date is 8 573 464.
