The Health Department has recorded 1 742 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the number of total infections to 1 479 253.
There have been a further 396 COVID-19 related deaths in the country, bringing the national death toll to 46 869.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in Limpopo.
“Regrettably, we report 396 more COVID-19 related deaths: 20 from Eastern Cape, 6 from the Free State, 81 from Gauteng, 85 from KwaZulu-Natal, 118 from Limpopo, 18 from Mpumalanga, 3 from the Northern Cape and 65 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
The total number of recoveries stands at 1 367 247.
The cumulative total number of tests conducted to date is 8 538 269.
