The South African Weather Services has issued a warning of severe thunderstorms over the southern and western parts of KwaZulu-Natal until Tuesday.
There is a possibility of localised flooding in low-lying areas and damage to critical infrastructure and housing, particularly in informal settlements.
Forecaster Stacy Colborne says there is a 60% chance of rain in some parts of the province.

“We are expecting a 60% chance of showers and thundershowers over Southern and Western KZN. Otherwise a 30% chance over the rest of the province. We are expecting a warning of severe thunderstorms to occur over the Western parts of KZN. Places included are Newcastle, Vryheid, Ladysmith, Greentown, Estcourt, Moon River, Giants Castle and Underberg. Looking at tomorrow, 60% chance of showers and thundershowers mostly over the Western parts of KZN otherwise a 30% chance over the rest of the province. We do have a warning out against for severe thunderstorms over the Western parts of KZN for tomorrow as well.”
