The police have arrested two people in the Bergville area in western KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Police Spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele says the Defence Force assisted police officers when they went to two homesteads to follow up information that had been received.

Two pistols, of which the serial numbers have been filed off, have been confiscated.

Mbhele says the firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to see if it was used in the commission of crimes.

The two suspects, who are 37 and 41-years-old respectively, are expected to appear in the Bergville Magistrates Court.
