The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) says government has to intervene regarding the taxi routes matter.

Santaco says it will conduct its own investigations regarding the taxi violence that erupted in the Johannesburg CBD on Saturday morning.

Four taxis were torched and six others damaged during clashes between drivers from the Witwatersrand African Taxi Association (WATA) and the Nancefield Dube West Association (Nanduwe).

They are allegedly fighting over routes.

Emergency teams and police are on high alert in the area.

Mamabolo has condemned the violence saying it will not be tolerated.

“We are monitoring the situation. We are working hard with law enforcement to make sure that we bring immediate stability to the area. We have already contacted the provincial structures of SANTACO (South African National Taxi Council ) and GNTA (Gauteng National Taxi Alliance) in the province,” says Mamabolo.
