Former rugby player Zane Killian is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday in connection with an attempt to kill prominent defence lawyer William Booth.
The 39-year-old is facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and the unlawful interception of communication.
The shooting took place at Booth’s home in April this year.
He escaped unharmed.
Killian is also accused of the murder of top anti-gang unit member Charl Kinnear outside his Bishop Lavis home about two months ago.
In the video below, details of Killian being linked to the attempted murder of William Booth:
At the time of his death, Charl Kinnear was involved in high profile investigative work related to the alleged criminal underworld.
He was investigating high-profile cases such as the murder of prominent lawyer Pete Mihalik, underworld boss Nafiz Modack and eight high-ranking police officers who are accused of colluding with fellow officers at the Central Firearm Registry.
During his funeral service, Police Minister Bheki Cele said Kinnear should not be mourned but rather celebrated as he was a hero.
Cele said ongoing attacks on the police in the Western Cape should not go unchallenged.
He also urged communities to condemn the police killings:
