OH Odendaal Hospital fire claims two lives

Two patients have died in a fire at OH Odendaal hospital in Modimolle in Limpopo on Tuesday morning.

One of the patients who died was an inmate admitted at the hospital.

Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba is holding a meeting with hospital management.

The cause of the fire that started at about four o’clock on Tuesday morning has not yet been established.

A ward was destroyed in the fire which left two dead.

The identities of those who died have not yet been released.  Patients at the hospital were evacuated to safety.

Officials from the Health department, Ramathuba and officials from Correctional Services are also expected to meet.

More details will be released after the meeting.

Last month, the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital was  temporarily closed following a fire.

The blaze broke out in a storage room, which spread to other parts of the hospital.
